For the last few weeks I have been beta-testing and doing sound design for Rob Papen’s Predator 2 update. This resulted in a brand new Oddiction soundbank with 128 new sounds. From bread & butter synth-sounds to oddly ‘wild’ patches, as Rob called them. In this version you find some great new features, with the new modulation destinations my absolute favorite.
2018 is split through the middle by now and I have been working on various new things the past six months. Was part again of a new Rob Papen product, called Go2; did beta-testing on both the VST as the RE (Rack Extension). This week the Propellerhead Software Reason 10.1 (free) update came out, adding some cool stuff to the already amazing Europa Rack Extension and they also added a new player: the Drum sequencer. Since I needed a break from each and everything, I have spend this Sunday in the Studio and been playing around with both items. oddiction.net is back up and this is the first update in well over 2 years. The website has been migrated to a hopefully, more stable hosting. The last hosting had a whole lot of downtime because it was under constant DDOS attacks or server errors. With the moving and Winter cleaning, the oddiction.net website also got a new, faster loading and cleaner look. […]
When you’re pioneering rough dance music there is always the need for more brutal and more aggressive sounds. From kickdrums that create bowl movements to ripping leads and screeches that make ears bleed, as producer you always want to push them to the next level. There is a thing all these sounds have in common; distortion! Distortion is a little bit like ketchup, everything gets better with it! The more you pour on it, the better it tastes! The only difference; if you start tweaking the RAW knobs in this VST……. The hot-sauce oozes out!
Here we go again! Just a wee bit time has past after the release of Punch-BD, but at the Papen factory the coarse seems to be full-speed ahead! The newest release is called QUAD and it’s a Reason Rack Extension (RE). The main concept of this beast is Subtractive synthesis, but you can alter, sculpt and distort the sound with the Phase distortion and/or Wave Shaper part of the rack. QUAD is a very versatile synth and I had a ton of fun making patches for it!
A little while back I started using Propellerheads Reason, mainly for beta testing and sound design on Rob Papen products. While wandering through the amazing tutorials Propellerheads make, I discovered the Parsec Spectral Synthesizer. The beauty of Rack extensions is that you can directly drop them in your Rack and test them for 30 days without any limitations or other annoying stuff like noise bursts or audio drop-outs. Parsec is an amazing and very powerful Synth, it makes use of Additive Synthesis. This might sound complicated, but I assure you, this RE is so easy to use and SO inspiring! While playing around with it (and adding it to my want-for-Xmas-List!) I made a few patches which I’m more then happy to share with you.
When you build a house, you need a strong foundation, when you start a new track you need the exact same thing. Rob Papen’s Punch-BD is a very good starting point to begin a new track. This newest RP VST is based around the bassdrum module of the multi award winning Punch virtual drum synthesizer. The last few months I have been doing sound design and beta testing on Rob Papen‘s Blue-II. In that period of testing I made well over 400 sounds for this new synthesiser and loved every single minute of time I spend working with it. I selected enough sounds to make 3 complete soundbanks, these are all included in the factory sounds. Some patches I kept to myself for tracks I’m currently working on and some of them got binned during the process. But no worries, there will be more OddI sounds for sure 😉
